There are many town buses that goes by the Hurtigruten Pier. It costs NKr 15 from the town centre. It is possible to walk to the pier but it is not recommended for those with heavy backpacks.

As the Hurtigruten leaves Trondheim, it passes the island Munkholmen (Monk Islet), with a monastery built in the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire long ago. A fort was built on the strategically situated islet in the 17th century, but it could not help Trondheim from being conquered by Swedish troops in 1658 and 1718. And when a German warship arrived at the end of the occupation in April 1940 there were no guns to defend the town. Munkholmen is nowadays a popular place to visit on sunny days.
