Finnsnes

28 July 2002, 11:05 - 11:45

One of the most important trading centres in the district, with 5,000 inhabitants in the town and another 6,000 in the rest of the municipality. Among the industries is a banana ripening facility.

Finnsnes is situated on the mainland, at the strait between the mainland and the large island Senja, Norways second largest island. Senja is almost a miniature of Norway, with the parts towards the mainland like the areas in southern Norway and the westward coast towards the Atlantic ocean among the 'wildest' in Norway - with up to 1,000 metres high mountains with steep walls towards the sea.
